No-Solder Sterling Clay Post Earrings

Hate to solder? Then sterling clay is the thing for you. I embedded sterling wire posts into my latest sterling clay earrings with good success.

In my learning, I did break the post off one of the four earrings I made, but it was my own fault. I didn't support the wire well while work hardening. It did not break at the join, but just above where I applied the wrong force. The next three worked great. The damaged pair of earrings is undergoing the next test of soldering on posts the old-fashioned way.

Please forgive the low quality image. My beloved Nikon D80 needs to go to the doctor after a sudden error condition that can't be cleared.

  2. Thanks for the post Vickie. I was wondering about this exact thing. Did you use a different firing schedule?

  3. I made no change to the schedule from what I used before (which is longer than recommended, just because the scientist in me says that would better).

30 minutes at 1000F, open to air, supported in vermiculite
2 hours at 1500F, buried in carbon
